Melancholy of a Video (2013)

Melancholy of a Video
2013 / single screen installation with separated sound from horn speakers,
4:3, Stereo / Color / looped

The video about a nameless town – a town located in Thailand rural area which is not agricultural one. This kind of towns is everywhere and they all look almost the same. These towns indwell shattered dreams of youth – dreams of gaining their own consciousness.

I shoot this video in my town with a cheap mobile phone camera, which were usually used by teens in the town. The video is like a hopeless effort of the youth, trying to prove that there are still living in this mummified town that have very low job opportunities and no good prospects. The poor quality of a phone camera also created a natural visual effect.

the sound is completely separated from the video, comes out of horn speakers, which normally use in the towns for broadcasting announcement from a municipality. But in this work I used very loud sound of custom motorcycle engine and announcements from many young villagers, seeking for a partner. As the exhibition was in Bangkok, It was demonstrated a reverse interrelationship between two distinct social groups.
